The preservation and rehabilitation of the existing historical heritage implies a historical-critical reading of the fabric constructed in its various valences (contextual, architectural, constructive). The research aims to contribute to the comparative study of the design and use of Portuguese and Italian anti-seismic construction techniques, particularly in the 19th century. The so-called gaiola pombalina and casa baraccata techniques are in question. It is intended to deepen the analysis of the relationship between the seismic phenomenon and the wood-based construction techniques, the basis of resistant systems, designed to improve seismic resistance, particularly in Portugal (after 1755) and Italy (after 1783).
