Short Bio

Simão Botelho is an architect with a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon (FAUL, 2010), which included an academic exchange in Buenos Aires (FADU-UBA, 2008–09). His master's thesis focused on “Transitional Spaces – Preservation of Privacy and Stimulation of Social Contact.” He founded his own studio in 2017, after working with Carrilho da Graça and Site Specific. He was a volunteer architect in the reconstruction of Pedrógão Grande after the 2017 wildfires and collaborated with the Lisbon Architecture Triennale between 2013 and 2016. His most recognised project, the Carcavelos Health Complex, co-authored with Studio-J and Duoma, received the 2024 Young Architects Award (Iberinmo), was selected as a finalist in national and international awards, and exhibited at the Düsseldorf City Museum (2023–24). He has also received other distinctions, including the Secil Universities Award 2010 for his final master’s project. He has presented at conferences such as “Art & Health” (MAAT, Lisbon) and “Boro – Building Health” (Bucharest). His projects have been featured on international platforms such as Archdaily, Divisare, Afasia, and Baunetz. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Lisbon and a PhD candidate at ISCTE/NOVA with FCT funding.
